2001 commissioned by the Whitney Museum of American Art
Milk Milk Lemonade was commissioned as part of the Whitney Bitstreams show in 2001. It has shown in Brooklyn at
the Mastel + Mastel gallery and in Caracas Venezuela as part of Fundacion Polar.
The original version utilized 3 cameras which tracked viewers movements through a stairwell and in turn
controlled online graphical content with their movements. It also featured a live graffiti-style chat wall
that allowed online visitors to make comments and post thoughts in real-time to the museum visitors. All of this
text is archived.
In later versions of the work, the text-wall became dominant and took on a particularly significant
meaning after September 11th. The work was shown in Brooklyn just two days before Sept. 11th - then
in Venezuela on Sept. 25th.
Baldwin is creating a 'before and after' project that is made up of visitors thoughts and words before
and after the event.
